    October offers our best view of a bright but rarely noticed star in the south. Easy duplicate photo finder 1 7 64. Look low in the south-southeast near 7 o'clock for a rather bright star, known to astronomers as Fomalhaut, reaching due south near 9:30 PM. The name originates from Arabic for the 'mouth of the fish', part of the constellation, the Southern Fish.

    The swift and sizzling planet Mercury passes between the Earth and the Sun today, though not perfectly aligned, as its slightly tilted orbit takes it below the Sun from our point of view. In this transition, Mercury is heading for its best morning appearance next month.
